Scope Overview
There where three main structures built as part of this project. The first structure constructed was a temporary embankment ramp to maintain traffic from grade to the elevated bridge which connected the roadway system to the departure elevation at the terminal. This was constructed from an engineered temporary MSE structure with concrete pavement and traffic barriers lining both sides.
After the temporary ramp was constructed the demolition of the existing roadway bridge could occur. Prus then began building a 600’ long, 30’ tall permanent MSE wall ramp from grade to the new proposed elevated roadway bridge. The final piece to construct was the 1,700’ long bridge to connect the new MSE ramp to the existing bridge which would ultimately reconnect the roadway system from I-275 to the CVG terminal departures.
The bridge consisted 2-span steel beam unit, 8-span highly curved (200-ft radius) steel plate girder unit, and 4-span prestressed I-beam unit; on partial hammerhead or single-span cap-and-column piers on shafts. Once all the connections were made the temporary ramp was demolished and removed.
